De Quervain's Syndrome

De Quervain's syndrome is a condition characterised by pain on the side of the wrist. It is caused by inflammation of the tendons which move the thumb (tenosynovitis) and is a common condition in mothers and fathers who spend a lot of their time picking up infants and toddlers.

Treatment is with rest, splintage, injections, therapy and very occasionally, surgery.

With the right treatment, the condition can be cured completely.
